Sen. Bernie Sanders supposedly to campaign for Amendment 69 in Boulder on Monday at 5 PM
DENVER— Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will speak at the University of Colorado on Monday in support of Amendment 69, or ColoradoCare, but CU officials say the shoddily-run ColoradoCare campaign announcement was “premature” and has not yet signed the contract in order to do so.
Amendment 69 seeks to triple Coloradans taxes to give a blank check to an unelected and unaccountable bureaucracy that will control all health care decisions and payments. The proposal will restrict women’s access to reproductive health care, jeopardize the LGBT community’s access to life-changing drugs and care, and is opposed by virtually all elected Democrats, ProgressNow Colorado, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. It is also opposed by free-market, business and conservative groups. Advancing Colorado, which spearheaded the opposition to the proposal, calls the proposal deadly and an abomination.
Advancing Colorado Executive Director Jonathan Lockwood slammed Sanders and the ColoradoCare campaign and released the following statement:
“Sen. Bernie Sanders and state Sen. Irene Aguilar are going to get innocent people killed with their despicable political agenda. Women and the LGBT community are especially at risk under the ColoradoCare proposal and it is an outrage to see politicians endanger their followers. Sanders and Aguilar, total hypocrites, and their dark money-backed allies, need to answer how they are going to ensure that vulnerable populations are not put at risk by the health care rationing built into the deadly proposal.”
