Development: U.S. ransom cash actually held until Iran freed prisoners

DENVER—Emerging details of the $400 million U.S. cash ransom payment to Iran earlier this year expose an orchestrated and scripted exchange specifically timed to the release of several American prisoners held in Iran.

Advancing Colorado Executive Director Jonathan Lockwood released the following statement:

“Sen. Michael Bennet and President Obama secured for Iran dangerous amounts of cash in many currencies and there are no protections from that cash being spent on Iran’s state-sponsored terrorism. Many Coloradans are still outraged that Bennet supported this lawless deal with Iran.

“Iran is the largest state-sponsor of terrorism and we know that, but we are giving them hundreds of millions in cold hard cash? On top of that, we have the debate raging back and forth on whether this was a ransom payment. The entire situation is suspicious and to most voters this is unacceptable. Coloradans do not want to see their tax dollars fund terrorism.

“Bennet’s support for the Iran deal made it easier for Iran to obtain cash, ICBMs, weapons, and more, and to continue their agenda of Islamic jihad. Bennet needs to make a statement, a bold, clear and meaningful statement on just what he thinks about these emerging details of the ransom payment – he owes Coloradans at least an explanation.”
